[ 15-06-2010 ]The concept of the Gaff-schooner "Countess" is designed in the spirit of the 3 mast schooner "Atlantic" of which the steel hull has been built by Graafship.

Although smaller, the yacht has the same spirit of tradition as her bigger sister. An authentic traditional yacht in detail and rig, with up to date systems to provide suitable comfort on board.

The hull and deck design follow the true classical details of the 30-ies of the previous century. A sweeping sheerline on a moderate profile is combined with a traditionally styled deckhouse and skylights. Brass deck hardware and teak will complete the styling.

The 2 mast topsail gaff rig enhances the classic exterior atmosphere of the yacht, but to keep it manageable with a small crew, she will be equipped with (partly powered) modern deck and sail systems.

Under deck, de accommodation is kept to the wider part of the hull, in order not to built in the yacht's extremities, where space is cramped and cost for interior high. Authentic interior details in combination with traditional use of wood shall enhance the nautical atmosphere inside the yacht.

The onboard systems will be suitable for comfort on board, but not superfluous, to keep up with the spirit of the yacht.

The shipbuilding location features has also several secondary facilities as adequate electrical capacity, heating, etc. with the possibility to prepare work under the right environmental conditions, also an adjacent office building for administrative, engineering, washing, catering and other logistical matters. One of the other advantages is that we are in an industrial area located within this area a lot of companies that supply parts for our kind of industry, this could be an interesting cost saving aspect.
